Same as it Ever Was (but better)

I’m home! I had such a great time. I kind-of, sort-of, partially relaxed and for those few minutes, time stood still and it FELT like a really long vacation. And I saw lots of Cesar and dog miracles. It was awes. There was lots of this for two days so we stayed in and took naps and talked and drank. And watched more about dogs. I think that would be more relevant if I had a dog…….but I’m saving it for the future since I totally intend to have one at some point and by dang, that dog is going to need me to know how to make it yield to my alpha power. Heel!

But, thanks for your suggestions and well wishes on my vacation. I’m going to keep practicing and setting better limits on my working day and see if I can figure this sucker out.

I saw a flower. And a spider web. We did not look at the sewing machine which is probably just as well since the vodka might have made it hard to sew without going through a finger. I saw my niece and her husband and some of his family. We went to a movie and ate sushi and someone might have farted on someone’s lap. Maybe. And Leta was just as cute as could be. Chuck slept with me some of the time. I tell you – there are not many things better than good friends with a toddler, a dog, and a liquor cabinet.

  1. Hi. I have been reading Heather’s site for a long time and just yesterday found yours. The conclusion that I have come to is that I need to start a blog. I have never seen a blog by someone my age (48) written with wit and honesty and I believe I am the one to do it. And man o man I have some stories to tell. But how on earth does one start? Can you tell me??????? Please????? Forgive my ignorance. I actually have a degree in Computer Science and work in the Aerospace industry (notice the capitals due to the coolness factor) but when it comes to web stuff, I just order clothes and check my email. Help?!

  2. I can’t wait until I have a job and am able to fully enjoy vacations. I’m glad you were able to relax, if only for a little!

Also, Diana. If you want a really easy time in setting up a blog, head over to http://www.blogger.com and they’ll help you set one up in a few steps. Very easy!

  3. hey leah, i came across your blog two days ago via dooce.com. i love your honesty about EVERYTHING. your voice is very refreshing and unpretentious (unlike many bloggers!).

  4. diana – john’s right. blogger makes it easy. good luck!

john – thanks, man. i just know you are going to make a huge stink someday and i’m going to be hearing about you doing something really worthwhile and slightly odd. your videos crack me up.

amy – thanks! i’m loking forward to your Soon Dubu, Chicken Soup and Jajang Myun recipes.

  5. i am so all over the motherfucking dog whisperer, man. its what i did on my xmas vacation: http://www.sweetney.com/000890.html

despite all of this, i still don’t understand how chuck got to be so mellow-cuddly. when i saw him in january he almost immediately curled up in my lap, like a kitten.

  6. Dude, seriously. Especially if said dog and toddler will snuggle with you. It’s like a theraputic retreat. Whenever I go to visit my nieces, they inevitably start playing with my hair and I swear it sends me into a drooling coma- where I wake up an hour later in the middle of the living room floor. Kids and animals have magical/quazi evil powers.

  7. chuck is totally the sweetest. those eyes! yes. between the two it was worth a 3k getaway therapy weekend swimming with the dolphins.

  8. I’m curious about the movie – was it any good?

It sounds here like you had a wonderful time away from it all.

  9. Hey! Awesome you got to relax and enjoy, you deserve it….keep repeating it….you deserve it.

We don’t get that channel where I live so I just heard about Cesar on Oprah…(i hate saying that dammit) I have the most neurotic dog so I am going to have get into this….

  10. Came on over from Dooce – you are SO lucky you got to sleep with Chuck. I think he is the MOST amazing, tolerant and photogenic dog. I am very interested in your story and plan to buy your book when the next paycheck comes in.

Looking forward to reading more here too!

  11. Hi there, found your site via Dooce as many others have commented. My “real” first name is Leah too. That is cool, b/c there aren’t many of us around (with that same spelling). I was named after the Roy Orbinson song, I wonder if you were named after the biblical Leah?

I actually bought a book, “The Red Tent” only b/c it involves Leah from the bible and I’ve no idea about the story of Leah and the rest of Joseph’s wives. I’m not bible nutty or anything, just a big old Narcissist. Btw, that book is awesome.

You “gots” a great blog, and good for you for getting away from it all and enjoying yourself. As a mother of two children, one dog, two cats, one umbrella cockatoo, one fish, and wife to husband I can totally appreciate your need for vacation time 🙂

  12. Like so many other people, I came across your site by way of Heather’s and I was instantly hooked. Your story is so incredible. Your strength is such an inspiration to people in any situation that threatens to block out the sun. I’ve spent several days combing through your archives reading and then looking at your paintings, they are breathtaking!

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello. Oh, and that I ordered your book!

  13. it’s the first one. but i’ve been called any number of combinations and if you have chocolate in your hands i’ll answer to just about anything.

  14. not so much, mike. i found some of the characters interesting but none really compelling. it was quiet and moody and i wanted to hit some of them, but that was about as much of a reaction as i had.
    xo
